Christ the King Died the Death we Deserved to Die

• For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. (Isa 9:6-7 NKJ)

• Then Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” He answered him and said, “It is as you say.” (Luke 23:3 NKJ)

• Then Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people,14 said to them, “You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. And indeed, having examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse Him;15 “no, neither did Herod, for I sent you back to him; and indeed nothing deserving of death has been done by Him. (Luke 23:13-15 NKJ)

• Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said to him, “Let Him be crucified!”23 Then the governor said, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they cried out all the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified!”24 When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but rather that a tumult was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this just Person. You see to it.”25 And all the people answered and said, “His blood be on us and on our children.”

• And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left. (Luke 23:33 NKJ)

• And an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. (Luke 23:38 NKJ)

• Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.8 He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken. . . . And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:4-8, 12 NKJ)

• Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree “), (Galatians 3:13 NKJ)

• Christ also suffered for us, . . .; 24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness– by whose stripes you were healed. (1Peter 2:21a, 24 NKJ)

• So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. (John 19:30 NKJ)

• For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, (1Peter 3:18 NKJ)

• And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. (Hebrews 9:27-28 NKJ)

This is a time to remember our need to embrace the death of Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, as our only way of salvation; He paid the penalty for our sins we could never pay and purchased with His precious blood our redemption, redeeming us from the bondage to sin. Come to Jesus Christ with a humble and contrite heart, leaning on His finished work on the cross for the forgiveness of your sins and everlasting life. Today is the day of salvation; for salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone to the glory of God alone, according to Scripture alone! Then, begin to serve Him with your life in the freedom that belongs to you with love and thankfulness.
