Sermon Videos from the Gospel of John

On February 26th, 2023, Rev. Stetler began a series of messages from the Gospel of John focusing on the Person and work of Jesus Christ: The Word, the Life and the Light of the world. In Acts 4:12 the apostle Peter tells us that there is salvation in no “other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” The apostle John in his gospel record gives ample reason to never doubt this true statement concerning Jesus Christ. Everything Jesus did leads to one conclusion: He is Word become flesh, who dwelt among men, suffering and dying at the hands of wicked men and rose again on the third day that sinners like you and me might have through Him alone the forgiveness of sins, righteousness, salvation and everlasting life as we come to Him alone in repentance of our sins and faith alone. . . . And this the purpose stated by John himself in Chapter 20, verse 31, when wrote, “these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. “

May God use this series of messages to strengthen and encourage the weak and down cast as they grow in the knowledge and love of our beloved Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Soli Deo Gloria!

Clearing the Temple: Sanctifying Worship

Sermon Text: John 2:13-25 (Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:1-23)

Preached on May 28, 2023 at Peace Reformed Church, Garner, IA

Preached by: Rev. Richard Stetler

The second miracle Jesus does; the miracle that starts His public ministry with a “bang,” sort of speak. Clearing the temple indicated who He was and is, the Messiah that was prophesied in the Old Testament; and spoke of His divine authority over His Father’s house zealously guarding it from the corruption and avarice that had taken root there. This event made quite an impression; but Jesus wasn’t impressed with those who said they believed in Him – watch the video to find out why; and, how this event has application for believers today, both corporately and individually.

Jesus’ First Miracle: Faith Reassured (No Video Available)

Sermon Text: John 2:1-12

Preached on May 21, 2023 at Peace Reformed Church, Garner, IA

Preached by: Rev. Richard Stetler

Jesus begins His earthly ministry in a small; not seeking glory from men, but rather demonstrates His glory that is inherent in Him as the only Begotten of the Father. His first miracle is done privately and without fanfare to reassure His new disciples that what they declared Him to be was, in fact, true. He instantaneously turn water into wine at a wedding feast in a small out of the way town, called Cana. Just as Jesus reassured the faith of His followers in a very private manner; He also does miracles everyday to reassure the faith of His followers today – He does so in many ways that oftentimes others are unaware of the miracles He’s working for us each and every day.

Unfortunately, the message did not get record due to technical reasons; however, the outline of the sermon is linked here: Sermon Outline

I don’t normally to this, but I believe the Lord may use the sermon that I wrote out to encourage someone in the faith – it is linked here: Text of Sermon

‘Come and See’: Overcoming Doubt

Sermon Text: John 1:43-51 (Scripture Reading: 1 John 4:1-6)

Preached on: May 14, 2023 at Peace Reformed Church, Garner, IA

Preached by Rev. Richard Stetler

Everyone, at one time or another, have had doubts about one thing or another, even the Faith, or his or her relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Doubts oftentimes lead to unbelief; but they don’t have to – how we handle our doubts will determine whether doubt will lead us to Jesus Christ, as it did for Nathanael; or it will lead us away from Jesus to unbelief. Let’s learn how doubt is handled in this account of Philip and Nathanael, as they are both called by Jesus to be His disciples.

What do You Seek?

Sermon Text: John 1:35-42 (Scripture Reading: 1 Thessalonians 1:2-10)

Preached May 5, 2023, at Peace Reformed Church, Garner, IA

Preacher: Rev. Richard Stetler

Synopsis: Out of all the disciples of John the Baptizer, only 2 followed Jesus after he told them that Jesus was the “Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” How sad, yet a picture of how many people respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ, who have not been born again of the Holy Spirit. People follow Jesus for many reasons; some follow Him with all their heart, soul, mind and strength; focused on knowing Him, serving Him and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ to other. Many others, on the other hand, only follow Jesus at distance, being content to only smell the gospel as pursue they pursue their love; the things of world, the praise of men and earning their way to heaven, which is impossible – our best righteousness is but a filthy rag before the only true and holy God, according to Isaiah 64:6.

Sermon Text: John 1:14-18 (Scripture Reading: 1 John 1:1-10)

Delivered on March 19, 2023, at Peace Reformed Church, Garner, IA

Preacher: Rev. Richard Stetler

The true Light, the Word, came into the world, to His own. We might ask: What form did He take? Did He take on the form of an angel? Was He a man who became a god? When He took on the form of a man, did He cease to be God? How did He reveal Himself to those who were in the world, to those who were His own? In this message these questions are answered as the apostle John sheds more light on the person and work of Jesus Christ.

Sermon Text: John 1:6-13 (Scripture Reading: Hebrews 1:1-14)

The Light came to His own and His own didn’t receive Him – Why? Watch to find out why it is that a person can grow up in a church and later in life rejects the Light, who is Jesus Christ. The answer is simple, but many will spend eternity in hell though they attended church all their life.

Sermon Text: John 1:1-5 (Scripture Reading: John 1:1-18)

Delivered on: February 26, 2023, at Peace Reformed Church, Garner, IA

Preacher: Rev. Richard Stetler

The Word is the Life and the Light of all living creatures; He created them and uphold; He also is the Redeemer and Savior of sinners. John begins his gospel eyewitness account describing the person of Jesus Christ. Understanding the person of Jesus Christ is critical to understanding the work in redeeming and saving sinners, like you and me. Watch the videos to learn whether the person of Jesus Christ described in the Gospel of John is the same Jesus Christ you believe in and are putting your trust in for your salvation and eternal hope – If not, you will need to repent of your idolatry and put your trust the person of Jesus Christ as He is described in the passage here – if not, you are believing in a false Christ, a false savior, and a false salvation that is no salvation at all – May Lord bless you with the preaching of God’s inerrant and infallible written word to the glory of God!
