In Christ.
Jesus said, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. “ (Joh 8:32 NKJ); He also said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (Joh 14:6 NKJ).
We are reminded this day of our independence from British rule; a day to celebrate “our freedom” as a nation and as a people; yet the freedom that is being celebrated is for many a freedom without Jesus Christ. However, freedom without Christ is no freedom at all – there is only a delusion of freedom, being in bondage as slaves to the wants and desires of this world; the affection and passions of our fleshly pleasures and other idols of the heart that is said to be “deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked” [incurably sick] (Jeremiah 17:9).
True freedom is only known when a person comes to Jesus Christ, confessing his or her sins and turning to Him for the forgiveness of sins, righteousness, salvation and everlasting life. Jesus Christ purchased freedom for sinners everywhere, freeing them from the penalty of their sins, which is death; freeing them from bondage to their inborn sin nature; freeing them, ultimately, from the very presence of sin in the new heavens and the new earth; the eternal inheritance that will not fade away or perish, where there will be no more sin; “all tears will be wiped away; no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying . . . no more pain, for the former things will have passed away” (Romans 8:1-2; 6:12-14; 1 Peter 1:3-5; Revelation 21:1-8).
Do you know the freedom of being in Jesus Christ? Do you know within your heart that by the grace of God alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone you are saved; free from the penalty and, power of sin so that you desire to serve Christ in this life with a thankful and glad heart, as you look forward to that day when Christ returns to take all His purchased people into the new heaven and new earth?
If you don’t know the freedom of being in Jesus Christ. Then, as long as you continue as you are you will remain in your sin; held in bondage to your lusts, desires and vial passions – a slave to sin in this life; and then, you will suffer the eternal torment of Hell in the life to come – an eternity of darkness, weeping and gnashing of teeth. Turn from your away your sin, turn away from the idols of your heart and turn to Jesus Christ, who has purchased true freedom by His precious blood on the cross of Calvary some 2,000 years ago, and then rose again three days later having gained victory over death and devil and now sits at the right of the Father in heaven having been given all authority in heaven and on earth to the glory God.
