Sermon Text: John 4:25-26, 28-30 (Scripture Psalm 39:1-13; Other reading: Acts 3:1-26)
Delivered on January 25, 2026, by Rev. Richard Stetler during the Lord’s Day worship of the Resurrection Hope Congregation, Hartley, IA
This sermon looks at the culmination of the conversation between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well. What Jesus reveals to her stirs up such a delight and joy in her that she drops what she was doing to tell others about what she has learned; and the hope that it brings, even to those who were considered base and despised by their neighbors that surrounded them to the north and especially to the south. Does the Gospel message stir you up with delight and joy so much that you are eager to tell others about Jesus Christ, who did what no sinner could or would do for himself, much less for others? Or has going to worship on the Lord’s Day, or reading your Bible (if even read during the week) become just routine; what you have done all your life and raised to do? I pray this sermon will stir up a delight and joy in your heart, such as what happened to the Samaritan woman, that you will become eager to tell others the good news that our only Messiah has come: who is the “Prophet”; who is also our High Priest and King – the King of kings and Lord of lords – there is no other!
