Sermon text: John 5:10-15; Scripture Reading: John 5:1-15 (other reading: Matthew 12:1-21)
Message delivered by Pastor Richard Stetler on April 12, 2026 during the worship service at Resurrection Hope Congregation in Hartley, IA
The message part 2 of a two-part message titled, “Helping the Helpless.” In the first message, we looked at how Jesus demonstrated His mercy and compassion on a man crippled for 38 years; healing him completely, restoring his ability to walk and his strength to be able to carry his bed. Yet, Jesus didn’t just heal the man of a physical infirmity; his healing went even deeper. There was also spiritual healing. It is this spiritual healing that we are considering in this message and how the man demonstrated that spiritual healing in his response to being healed of his physical infirmity. With the healing came a warning; a warning Jesus gives to the man, who afterwards, goes and tells others of the mercy and compassion of Jesus, demonstrating further that his healing was more than just physical.
