True Believers: Anointed by Christ (Sermon Delivered on 1/13/2019)

We are living in perilous times, especially as true believers in Christ.  There are all sorts of adversaries, who are working to undermine and subvert the gospel of Jesus Christ. However, those who are truly in Christ may have confidence as we remain steadfast in the truth that has been taught to us by the Holy Spirit through the faithful teaching and preaching of God’s word.

“True Believers: Anointed by Christ”

1 John 2:20-21, 23b-28 (John 15:1-8)

Introduction

• Living in Perilous Times: Liberation Theology (Galatians 1:8)

• Religious Legalists (2 Corinthians 11:13-15)

I. An Anointing from the Holy One (vs. 20-21) 

• Who is the “Holy One”? (Isaiah 61:1; Luke 4:18; Acts 10:36, 38; 3:14; Romans 8:9) 

• What Does it Mean to be Anointed? (Acts 10:38)

• Received the Holy Spirit and Power

• “Knows all Things (v. 20b; 1 Corinthians 2:12-14)

II. The Evidence of the Anointing from Christ  (vs. 23b-27)

• Acknowledge Jesus is the Christ in all the Attributes that Belong to Him in His Person and Work (v. 23b)

• Abide in the truth (vs. 24-26);

• The promise of Eternal Life (v. 25; Hebrews 3:14)

• Abide in Christ, because He Abides in Us (v. 27)
