Fear not! Jesus Christ is our triumphant king – the King of kings and Lord of lord!
Our flesh will push us to live in fear and despair; to pursue our own solutions, to look to a man who will rescue us from our political, social and economic woes. Beloved, we need to stop looking for the man on the white horse with a bow as we read in Revelation Chapter 6; he is a deceiver and a man of destruction. He offers only man-centered solutions to save us from the woes of this world. He may change our political, social and economic situations, but he will not change the hearts of rebellious and hateful people toward God, our Creator, Savior and Redeemer. In fact, the man on the white horse holding a bow will seek to have all eyes focused on him, so that we are no longer looking to Jesus Christ, who is the only true Savior and Redeemer of mankind. Jesus rode on the back of a donkey colt when He came the first time as a humble servant savior to redeem and purchase sinners from the condemnation, dominion and ravages of sin through His death and resurrection. He will not be riding a donkey colt when He comes again to deliver His purchased possession. He will be riding on a majestic white steed, who will have written on His robe and thigh, “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Revelation 19:15-16). He will come in might and in power to destroy the wicked, redeem in full His purchased possession, remove all evidence of sin, sorrow, grief, pain and death from this world; then, at last, usher in the new heaven and the new earth, where the effects of sin will not exist and perfect peace and harmony between God and His creation will thrive forever to the praise and glory of God. Therefore, by the grace of God we must in faith lift your eyes upward to the God/Man, Jesus Christ, who sits on the majestic white steed who will come welding a two-edged sword that proceeds out of His mouth striking the nations that rage against Him. It is a sword of death for all appointed to eternal damnation and torment in the fiery pit of hell; the same sword being also the gospel sword of life to all who are appointed to everlasting life through Jesus Christ. It is for this reason that we must cry out to God to work grace in our hearts; to work true repentance in us, to turn us from living in fear and pride; and, to give us faith to believe in the promises of Him who delivered us from our sin and misery in His death and resurrection. He is our only hope, especially in these very troubling times. He is our only Savior, who delivers us from all our fears as we look beyond the temporary miseries of this life and with joy embrace the eternal glories in the life to come to the glory of God (2 Corinthians 4:17).
