Monthly Update – April, 2021

“Indeed He says, `It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.'” (Isa 49:6 NKJ)

In this verse, the Lord is anticipating that the salvation that is promised to the tribes of Jacob will also go out to the Gentiles. Those who have been called out of the kingdom of darkness by the light of the gospel into the kingdom of God in Christ will shine forth His light, His salvation that is through Jesus Christ alone, “to the ends of the earth.”

This is being fulfilled even now, just as it has been since the first advent, when Christ came into the world to dwell amongst men having taken on Himself the very nature of man, both of body and soul. At first the gospel went to the people of the nation of Israel, to the tribe of Judah, then it spread throughout the Roman Empire when the Jews began to persecute the Christians, after that up until today the gospel of Christ has spread out to the world with only a few people groups that are yet to be reached with the gospel. This is the mandate that Jesus Himself has placed upon us as believers in Him. We are to make every effort to spread the gospel message through whatever means and opportunity that God sets before us.

At RGM we are dedicated to spreading this message of Christ; the only true message of salvation and everlasting life; God’s salvation and light to sinners everywhere. We are laboring to spread the gospel both in the United States and to other nations; taking the message of Jesus Christ to the lost and those who sit in darkness. As part of that work and ministry we provide the opportunities for the saints to indirectly and directly participate in spreading the gospel to the nations and all people groups, to as many as will hear the gospel. It is sad to note that because the gospel message has been so watered down so as to be nothing more than a man-centered gospel that many hearts have been hardened to the works righteousness message, especially here in the United States and much of western society. It is impossible to live a godly life to the glory of God alone, unless God works grace in the sinner’s heart. As a result, the man-centered gospel is either rejected in its entirety or changed and redefined (think, ‘re-imagined’) to compromise with the views of the world and the ungodly mindset that embraces all that is contrary to what is taught in the Bible; the infallible, inerrant word of God. We are committed to the Reformed Confessions and Creeds as expressions of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, formulating our tracts and evangelism efforts drawing from those 16th and 17th century documents of the Faith.

Please Note: this ministry cannot labor alone in this broad outreach of the gospel both here and in other parts of the world. We need your help on many levels: we need your prayers for without the grace of God at work in us we cannot do even a fraction of what the Lord has given us to do. We need volunteers, especially as we get geared up for our season of outreach in NW Iowa – we have many activities planned for the spring and summer months, which began March 17th and 18th and then picking up again in May and running through the summer and fall months. We also need volunteers to help with coordinating our outreach projects in other countries – this is too much for one or two people to do.

We are excited to report the following activities from mid-March through April:

Local Community Outreach

On March 17th and 18th we were at the Indoor Market Fair with a booth giving away Bibles, books and gospel tracts. We gave away about a thousand dollars worth of books to the many people who stopped by the booth. We also made some new connections and had many conversations witnessing Christ to unbelievers and encouraging believers in their faith. It was a great opportunity for a couple of our volunteers to serve the Lord and spread the gospel to many members in the community and the surrounding areas. Without the generous donations from individuals and churches we would not have been able to get the message of God’s salvation to the many people in our community and the surrounding areas. Thank you!

Our ad in the local paper inviting people to stop by our booth (left); We started with about 200 Bibles and books to give away, and hundreds of gospel tracts (2nd pic). By the end of the first day we were cleaned out of most of most of the books and quite a few Bibles. This required us to tap in a back up supply of books, about $800 worth (3rd pic). By the end of the Fair we had given away hundreds of books and Bibles (gospel tracts were inserted into them) worth a total of about $1,000 (Right)

Personal Praise:

A week after the fair I tested positive for the CCP virus. I had what is called the “Bam” infusion treatment at the hospital the following day and within 2 days was feeling great though I remained in quarantine. The same day I went in for the infusion, our daughter, Ana, who also helped at the fair, tested positive for the virus. However, the next day she went into the hospital with breathing difficulties and was 33 weeks pregnant. Things went from bad to worse as she developed double pneumonia & pulmonary hypertension. The following Wednesday, March 31st, it was determined that the baby had to be delivered by C-section, or it could have been a fatal end for our daughter. So, at 34 weeks Scotlynn Renee DeBoer was born 5 lbs. 12 oz., 19 inches long at 11:15pm on March 31st. She has suffered no affects from her mother’s affliction and Ana recovered quickly from her pneumonia. Ana was released the following Lord’s Day. By 36 weeks Scotlynn was also released. The baby remains healthy; she doesn’t even look like a preemie – she is 20 inched long and 7 lbs. 6 oz. She is a very content and happy baby. Matthew, Ana’s husband and the father, also got the virus and was not able to be with either mom or baby for the delivery and for a 10 day period afterwards. We are thankful to the Lord who brought us all safely through this very serious trial – His mercy and grace abounded toward us all in this time – Praise to the Lord, who alone is worthy of all glory! Thank you also for all your prayers for me and my family.

Weekly Bible Study:

We continue to hold our weekly Bible study when I’m not preaching at churches out of town. We are studying in the Book of Revelation and have titled the study “The Gospel According to Revelation.” We meet every Lord’s Day at 2 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Sioux Center, IA. Our next meeting is on May 2nd. We are on Chapter 6 in the Book of the Revelation. You can contact Rev. Stetler by email at refgosmin@gamil.com or by phone at (712) 441-5793 for more information.

Rev. Stetler wrote an article, which was posted to the social media platforms. The article, “Hope in the Mercy of God” was published on the RGM website and submitted for publication in 2 magazines (the Reformed Herald and Christian Renewal). It has also been submitted to The Aquila Report, which should be including it in its weekly publication soon.

Overseas Evangelism Support Efforts

Because we had received some generous donations we are excited to report for mid-March and April we were able continue to send gospel tracts and Bibles for distribution in India, Nigeria and Peru through the indigenous ministries in each country. We note the following in particular:

1. South India:

In the beginning part of April, 350 more gospel tracts in the Telugu language were sent to Syam in the Bangaluru area of the southern part of India. After being vetted by Syam, RGM began to also send tracts in the Telugu language (600) to Pitta, a pastor of a congregation in the Andhra Pradesh area of Southern India (a number of miles NE of Bangaluru). The tracts are currently in transit through the postal system. Unfortunately, a couple of days after mailing the tracts the country went into lock down mode due to a surge in CoVid-19 cases.  Please pray that the tracts are delivered safely and that Pitta & Syam are able to distribute them in May as a part of their on-going evangelism efforts among the Telugu speaking people of S. India. Please also pray for the people of India as they endure a surge in the viral infections of Covid-19. More importantly, pray for the believers there as there is much persecution being experienced in the country.

“Are you Saved?” Tract “There is Good News” Tract “The Comfort of the Gospel of Christ” Tract

2. In the Northern area of India where an indigenous Reformed missionary is located at the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains . . .

. . . RGM sent 8 more Bibles (NKJV) and 800 gospel tracts (400 in English and 400 in Hindi) at the beginning of April.  Again, the package is processing through the postal system and with the country in lock down at this time it is hard to say when it will get there.

Many are coming to Christ through his tract distribution efforts, with Bibles being given away to new converts. However, the missionary’s outreach ministry is being hampered by current travel restrictions that are in place in the country. The restrictions are keeping him from holding church services at this time. Please them and the ministry there in prayer.

There is a man and his family that live in a mountain village.  He and his family recently came to Christ through the outreach efforts of the missionary. The man desires to serve the Lord in taking the gospel message to other villages in the mountains (the missionary is teaching him the doctrines of the faith). In order to do that and provide for his family he would like to start a business to breed goats (a very profitable business in that area) while he reaches out to neighboring mountain villages. To get started he needs a male and a female goat. To purchase two goats will cost $200 USD. If you would to help him to get started please contact Rev. Stetler at regosmin@gmail.com or by phone at (712) 441-5793 or simply mail a check and designation it, “Himalayan Project.”

Rev. Stetler continues to conduct weekly prayer meetings through the internet (Wednesday evenings US Central Time) with the missionary in India and one other person here in the States, who has an interest in supporting the work there. If you would like to participate in the prayer meeting email Rev. Stetler at refgosmin@gmail.com

At the end of May, a summer youth program will begin in the village where the missionary lives, subject to the lock down being lifted, of course. Reformation Gospel Ministries will be supporting the program in providing study materials for the youth. Please keep this ministry in your prayers as the missionary and his family reaches out to the youth of their village with the gospel and make disciples, teaching them whatsoever Jesus has commanded in His word and expressed in the Reformed confessions and creeds.

3. More Bibles to Nigeria

Brother Joseph, who converted from Islam through the messages and literature on the RGM website, received 25 Bibles (KJV) at the beginning of April. The Bibles were purchased by RGM from a local Christian book store in Nigeria and were distributed to those in need amongst the congregation of believers there. They also continue to distribute tracts in their on-going evangelism efforts to the lost; and the Lord is using them to bring many to salvation by the blood of Jesus Christ through faith alone in true repentance.

We received the following message from Brother Joseph this past month:

“Dear Rev

God bless you and keep you  in Jesus name

how are you doing and hope you are safe  we have been praying for you  that the good lord will protect you and your family

My family and I wish to thank you for your prayer and support for this ministry of soul winning. Because of you, people are hearing the Gospel and many are being saved and their lives changed for eternity. We are truly grateful for your help which makes all of this possible. May our Lord continue to bless you with His love

please due to the coronavirus many and turning to Jesus dedicating their lives to christ hallelujah

my heart rejoiced and full of joy over the 25 bibles we picked up from the bookshop man   and the bibles has been prayerfully distributed freely to 25 people

we still need over 190 bibles there remaining others without bibles   i believed the lord will do it again

We are praying for you

thanks

joseph”

Please note that in his email Brother Joseph has requested another 190 Bibles. 25 more were purchased after this email was received. If you would like to help with the project, you can donate to it by going to our website and make a donation there or you can send a check, payable to “RGM,” mail it to PO Box 65, Sioux Center, IA 51250 and designate it “Bibles to Nigeria.”

50 Bibles distributed to members of the congregation

3. Kenya and Peru

  • This month (April) Pastor Benard in Kenya fell ill with Malaria – RGM was able to help cover most of the expense for him to receive a 4 day treatment at the hospital. He has recovered from his illness and will be back in the pulpit May 4th, Lord willing. Again, it is because of the generous donations from individuals and churches that we were able to help this laborer in the Lord in his time need. Thank you.
  • Twelve More Bibles and 200 Gospel tracts, both in Spanish, were sent to Ignacio Escudero, Peru (northern part of Peru) for distribution:
Another 12 Bibles will be sent as soon as we are able

4. Liberia

Reformation Gospel Ministries continues to support Rev. James Kartee of Monrovia, Liberia.

Under the banner of Rose of Sharon Ministries, Rev. Kartee is faithfully proclaiming to many people in the Monrovia area the gospel of Christ through his on-going evangelism efforts. In addition, he is teaching at the school he heads and laboring tirelessly in humanitarian efforts. He is actively working within neighboring communities to help people become self-sustaining by growing various crops for food, while at the same time teaching children to grow up utilizing skills and gifts that God has given them

On March 23rd Rev. Kartee reported that he had Malaria, from which the Lord healed him and returned to his labors after a short time of much needed rest – Praise the Lord for his speedy healing and recovery from this vicious affliction!

More Bibles, tracts and other items of need will be sent to him soon.

Resurrection Day Service with the Lord’s Supper – April 4, 2021

Rev. Kartee has been asking (for a couple of years) for Rev. Stetler come to Liberia to do some teaching and evangelism in Liberia. It was planned that he would go later this year (in September); however, it doesn’t appear that he will be able go at this time. Lord willing, Reformation Gospel Ministries is planning to send him in January or February of 2022. Please pray that the Lord would be pleased to provide the funding to do so and that travel restrictions would be eased, or preferably, lifted – don’t want to get any CoVid-19 shots.

Future Activities of RGM are listed in the Schedule of Activities and can be reviewed by clicking on the link below:
