“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry” (2 Timothy 4:2-5 NKJ)
In this passage the apostle Paul is exhorting young Timothy to in essence, fulfill his ministry by being faithful in the preaching of the word and to “do the work of the evangelist.” It is the later part of this exhortation that RGM is striving to develop strategies and programs that churches will be able use to evangelize their own communities in the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
This year has been a time of trying different approaches to evangelize the community, especially in Sioux Center, in an effort to develop evangelism outreach programs that any church can implement in its own community. This is evangelism the old-fashioned way, where we go to the people ‘on the streets’ with the gospel message. It is in that spirit RGM has sponsored and participated in community events throughout the year.
These events have included:
- The distribution gospel tracts, booklets and Bibles at;
o The Sioux Center Chamber of Commerce Indoor Market in March.
o Two parades (about 1500 packets with candy and a gospel tract were handed out along the parade routes) – The Sioux Center Summer Celebration Parade in June and the Hull Parade in July
o The Hope Haven Music Festival in June
o The Dordt College Taste of Sioux Center Event
- Two RGM sponsored events;
o Open-air Park Evangelism Events on June 9th at Central Park, Sioux Center
o Another one on August 18th. “Men of Praise” sang at this event.
In addition to the above RGM is currently sponsoring a Community Outreach Bible Study. We are studying the Genesis account, beginning with a defense of the first eleven Chapter as being historical accounts that are to be understood literally and without compromise, without except. All alternate views are without merit or Biblical support . . . not to mention have no scientific support, either. This study is being held at the H.O.M.E. facility (no charge for use of this facility) every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
On October 13th RGM is planning to conduct another Open-air Park Evangelism Event.
There is the possibility of one more event for this year that is in the planning stages. It will be held in Orange City and will be done in conjunction with Grace Reformed Presbyterian Church. We will update you when more information is available.
There are other events that may be sponsored or co-sponsored, such as; Christmas Caroling at nursing homes, assisted living homes, or even in certain neighborhoods, if possible (a caroling in the park event may also be an option, if the weather and the Lord permitting).
If not this year then next year, Lord willing, other event possibilities may include a community media presentation of “Alien Intrusion,” and other media presentations, as the Lord provides.
In addition to some of the same type of events held this year, a creation conference is also being planned for 2019. Initial contact with Creation Ministries International has been made and dates are being considered at this time. We will update you as more details are available. The event will, Lord willing, will be co-sponsored by RGM and a local church.
All of these events are in need of prayer and donations are also needed to ensure that RGM can continue to sponsor and co-sponsor events that proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to glory of God.
